Island Peak

Island Peak 6,189 meters is also known as Imja Tse. The peak is among the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal. And it rises as an Island in a sea of ice surrounded by Lhotse and Lhotse Shar Glaciers. Island peak is also located above the summer settlements of Chhukung. Eric Shipton’s party give The name – Island Peak in 1952 while exploring around Barun Gorge. But, the first recorded ascent of Island Peak made in 1953 by Charles Evan, Alf Gregory. So as Charles Wylie and Tenzing Norgay as a part of preparation climbing for Everest Expedition.

Lobuche (East) Peak

Lobuche Peak 6,119 meters is a fascinating and attractive peak that consists of several small summits. But, the climbing of the true summit is by descending into a marked notch. And then climbing steep snow and icy slopes to reach the Lobuche Peak summit. From the top, we will have magnificent views of high valleys and many snow-capped peaks surrounding Everest region. The first recorded ascent of Lobuche Peak was on 24th April 1984 by Laurence Nielson and Sherpa Ang Gyalzen.

Kyajo Ri Peak

Kyajo Ri Peak 6,183 meters is an attractive and highest peak summit in the southern flanks of Khumbu Himal range that runs north of Namche Bazaar. The climb of Kyajo Ri was only after 2002 by the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism. A British and French Expedition team in the same year made The first ascent of Kyajo Ri peak summit. The climb to the summit of the peak is only after a moderate rock and steep alpine ice climbing. Besides, it also offers ultimate climbing challenges with rewarding views of high peaks. Top high peaks are Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and other surrounding peaks in the Khumbu region.

Three Peaks Climbing Island Lobuche & Kyajo Ri for adventure journey

Three Peaks Climbing Island Lobuche & Kyajo Ri with Peak Climbing Nepal Guide Treks starts at Kathmandu. After spending a full day sightseeing around Kathmandu valley. We take a scenic flight from Kathmandu towards Lukla – the gateway to Khumbu and entire Everest region. From Lukla, we start our trek on a trail that heads through a dense forest filled with Rhododendron and Oak trees towards Namche Bazaar – The Sherpa Capital.

By now we are above 3000 meters altitude, which is why acclimatization is essential to avoid mental and physical sickness. After spending a good day of acclimatization at Namche Bazaar. Our Three Peaks Climbing Island Lobuche & Kyajo Ri adventure journey continues towards Dingboche.

From Dingboche, we head towards Island Peak Base Camp. Following the guidance of our experienced climbing experts, we head towards the summit of Island Peak. The climb of Island peak is challenging and difficult with several technical sections that we will overcome to reach the summit.

Once at the top, we are also rewarded with stunning views of Mt LhotseMt Makalu. Likewise, Lhotse Middle Peak, Lhotse SharMt NuptseMt Baruntse, Ama Dablam and other surrounding snow-capped peaks. After spending short quality time at the top of Island Peak summit, we descend following the same trail back to base camp.

Guidance of our Experienced Climbing Experts

After successfully achieving Island Peak, we follow the trail that heads towards Dingboche and then to Lobuche. From Lobuche, we head towards Lobuche Peak Base Camp and further to High Camp. The summit of Lobuche peak is technically straightforward. We will follow the footsteps and guidance of our experienced climbing experts to tackle the technical sections and head towards Lobuche Peak summit. Once at the top we are also rewarded with magnificent views high valleys and chains of mountains in the Everest region. We descend following the same route and head towards the beautiful valley of Gokyo.

We will cross Cho La Pass at 5,368 meters to arrive at Gokyo. From there we continue to follow the trail that heads for the crossing of another challenging pass – Renjo La at 5,435 meters to arrive at Lungden. From there we trek on a trail that passes through Mende. And heads towards Kyajo Ri Base Camp, Camp I and Camp II. Fully equipped and properly acclimatized, we will follow the footsteps of experienced climbing experts and head towards the summit of Kyajo Ri Peak.

Once at the top, we are also rewarded with stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu. So as Cho Oyu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and other surrounding chains of high peaks in the Everest Himalayan Range. We descend following the same route and head back to Base Camp.

Having achieved the Three Peaks Climbing Island Lobuche & Kyajo Ri. We will follow the trail that leads to Namche Bazaar and back to Lukla.   • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel

    Our representative from Everest Expeditions Nepal will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be greeted and then transferred to the hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city. Our staff will help you until the check-in procedure ends at Hotel. You can either have a rest at the Hotel. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Everest Expeditions Nepal.

  • Day 02: Sightseeing at Kathmandu Valley. Prepare for Trekking and Climbing

    We will spend our day sightseeing around some of the attractive world heritage sites within Kathmandu valley. Also, today we will complete all the necessary paper works and other preparations required for Three Peaks Climb Island Peak, Lobuche Peak, and Kyajo Ri Peak.

    Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for day sightseeing.

  • Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft]

    35 min flight & 3-4 hrs Trek  Lodge

    Today you will be transferred to the domestic airport for an early morning scenic flight to Lukla. Lukla is the gateway to Khumbu and the entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing at Lukla we start our trek by following the trail that is a gradual uphill climb through the left bank of the Dudh Koshi river. We will pass along several Mani walls before arriving at Ghat. From there, our trail is a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking until we arrive at Phakding for the overnight stay.

  • Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft]

    5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

    From Phakding we start our trek by crossing a small stream and then ascend until we reach Bengar. Our trail from there comprises of several ups and downs. We will make a stop at Sagarmatha National Park Service where the park entrance fee is collected. After registration at the National Park office, we will make a steep ascent to arrive at Namche Bazaar – The Sherpa Capital. Here, we will spend one more day for exploration and acclimatization.

  • Day 05: Acclimatization and Exploration day at Namche Bazaar

    Lodge

    Acclimatization is very necessary especially when we are in high altitudes. It is essential for avoiding altitude sickness and to strengthen our chance of reaching the summit. Hence, today we will take a rest day at Namche Bazaar for discovering the Sherpa culture and exploring around the busy market streets of Namche. Namche Bazaar is an extensive market town where there is always something to see. For acclimatization, we can hike up to Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park Museum and the combined villages of Khunde and Khumjung.

  • Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche [3867m/12683ft]

    5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

    After spending a good day rest at Namche Bazaar, we will follow the trail that climbs above Namche and Sagarmatha National Park Museum. Our trek continues on a rising trail towards Khyangjuma where there are a couple of tea houses. During our trek today we will have a magnificent view of Ama Dablam to our right. After some time of trekking, we descend on a stone-paved trail to Phunke Tenga and begin our uphill trekking through pine forest. From there we will traverse across Tyangboche hill and climb a switchback to arrive at Tyangboche.

  • Day 07: Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche [4260m/13972ft]

    5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

    We will make an early morning visit to Tyangboche Monastery to observe the morning prayers and to receive blessings from the eldest Monk at the monastery for our successful summit climb. From Tyangboche we continue our trek with stunning views of Ama Dablam and Kantega as they appear on the other side. Our trail is gradual uphill trekking to reach Pangboche and its monastery. From there we will climb towards a village and pass through a big mani stupa. Our trail from there is a fairly moderate trek as we head towards Dingboche.

  • Day 08: Trek from Dingboche to Island Peak Base Camp [5087m/16685ft]

    6-7 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    After breakfast, we leave Dingboche and then start following the trail that is gradual uphill trekking towards the high Imja valley. During our trek, we will get magnificent views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Island Peak, and other surrounding high peaks. Our trek continues until we arrive at Island Peak Base Camp. Our Sherpa crew will set up our camp at the foot of Island Peak’s south ridge beneath the giant wall of Nuptse and Lhotse.

  • Day 9: Leisure Day (incase of bad weather)

    Leisure Day

    Island peak base camp is situated at 5100m and weather at high altitude is unpredictable. Hence, it is always good idea to keep one day extra on your trip. This day is separated as leisure day incase we couldn’t continue our journey because of bad weather. If the weather is favorable we will continue our journey.

  • Day 10:  Island Peak summit [6189m/20299ft] & Back to Base Camp

    9-10 hrs climbing Island Peak  Tented Camp

    Today we start early with the aim to reach the summit before noon. The strong winds, especially after midday, can really create obstacles in reaching the summit. Fully equipped with all the climbing gears and properly acclimatized we will follow the guidance and instructions given by our Experienced Sherpa climbers, we will overcome several technical sections and climb the summit of Island Peak. Once at the top we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Mt Lhotse. Mt Makalu, Lhotse Middle Peak, Lhotse Shar, Mt Nuptse, Mt Baruntse, the majestic Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks. We will spend short and quality time at the top of Island Peak and then start to descend following the same route back to Base Camp.

  • Day 11: Island Peak Base Camp to Dingboche [4260m/13972ft]

    4-5 hrs Trek  Lodge

    After successfully achieving the summit of Island Peak, we prepare for our return trek to Dingboche by retracing our footsteps and pass along the rocky trails that eventually heads back to Dingboche. Our Sherpa crew will do all the hard works of carrying the tents and climbing gears. We will spend our overnight at Dingboche before trekking towards Lobuche.

  • Day 12: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche [4930m/16170ft]

    5-6 Hrs Trek  Lodge

    After breakfast, we leave Dingboche and follow the trail that is a downhill trek to reach Pheriche village. After about two hours of trekking from Pheriche, we arrive at Dugla with a small wooden bridge over the outflow of Khumbu glacier. During our trek, we will have magnificent views of Mt. Pumori and other high peaks west of Everest. We continue trekking until we arrive at Lobuche.

  • Day 13: Trek from Lobuche to Lobuche Peak Base Camp [4950m/ 16240ft]

    1-2 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    Today is a rather short and easy day of trekking. We will spend some time in Lobuche before following an easy trail that leads to Lobuche Peak Base Camp. Once we arrive at the base camp our Sherpa crew will set up the camp and make necessary preparations for setting up additional camps at higher altitudes. Since it is a short day of trekking we will have enough time to rest, much needed for the further climb to higher altitudes and for the main summit climb of Lobuche Peak.

  • Day 14: Leisure Day at Lobuche Base Camp

    Leisure Day

    Lobuche base camp resides at the height of 4,800m. Weather above 3500m is unpredictable, it can be changed in a few hours. This day is separated as extra day for bad weather condition, but if weather is fantastic we will move towards the next destination.

  • Day 15: Trek from Lobuche Base Camp to High Camp [5400m/17712ft]

    3-4 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    Today we leave the base camp and follow a narrow trail that is often snow-covered and icy. Our ascend journey can be very tiring, so resting every now and then helps in restoring energy. After a few hours of a tiring climb, we will reach a good campsite at 5,400 meters. Our Sherpa crew will quickly set up the camp and make final checks on our climbing gears and our health conditions before the main summit climb of Lobuche Peak, the following day.

  • Day 16:  Summit Lobuche Peak [6119m/20070ft] and back to Base Camp

    8-9 hrs climb  Tented Camp

    Fully equipped with all the climbing gears we start early with the aim to reach Lobuche Peak summit before midday. Following the footsteps and instructions of our experienced climbing Sherpa guides, we will overcome several technical climbing sections and head towards the summit. Once at the top we are rewarded with stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam and other surrounding high peaks in the Khumbu region. We will spend short quality time at the summit before descending down following the same route back to base camp.

  • Day 17: Trek from Lobuche Base Camp to Dzongla [4830m/15850ft]

    4-5 hrs Trek  Lodge

    After achieving the summit of Lobuche Peak, we pack our gears at the base camp and follow the trail that descends back to Lobuche. Our trail from Lobuche descends for about twenty minutes to reach Dugla. From there we turn right and follow an obvious trail that climbs up and around a grassy hillside to reach Pheriche. Our trail from there climbs an easy gradient all the way to Dzongla.

  • Day 18: Trek from Dzongla to Dragnag [4650m/15252ft] via Cho La Pass [5368m/17611ft]

    6-7 hrs Trek  Lodge

    After breakfast, we leave Dzongla and follow an obvious trail that loops over a grassy hill behind Dzongla before gradually ascending to a large meadow at the end of the valley. Our trail from there is a rather steep climb through rocky trails as we trek towards Cho La Pass at 5,368 meters. After a few hours of the tiring climb, we will reach the top of Cho La Pass which is often snow-covered and very slippery. From the top of the pass, we descend following the steep rocky trail. A long and steep descent brings us to the teahouses of Dragnag for our overnight stay.

  • Day 19: Trek from Dragnag to Gokyo [4800m/15580ft]

    3-4 hrs Trek  Lodge

    Today is a rather short day of trekking. From Dragnag we will follow the trail that crosses one of the impressive glaciers in the Everest region – Ngozumba Glacier. Once at the far side of the glacier we will turn right and follow the main Gokyo Trail. Our trek continues until we arrive at the settlement of Gokyo, which is located at the eastern shore of the large turquoise lake. After arriving at Gokyo – we spend the rest of the day exploring around the beautiful valley of Gokyo.

  • Day 20: Trek from Gokyo to Lungden [4600m/15088ft] via Renjo La Pass [5435m/17827ft]

    5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

    From Gokyo, our trail goes along the left side of the lake before climbing an unrelenting gradient for about two hours to reach a broad valley. From there, our trail heads due west across the valley and then climb around a rocky spur. Our climb steepens as we trek to the top of the pass. The view from Renjo La Pass is considered one of the best in the entire Solu-Khumbu region. Our trail descends from the top of the pass to the edge of a glacial lake. After about two hours of trekking our trail descends to a large sandy kharka. From there we descend rapidly into Bhote Koshi valley and trek for one hour to reach the few teahouses of Lungden for the overnight stay.

  • Day 21:  Trek from Lungden to Mende [3736m/12255ft] via Thame

    5-6 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    After breakfast, we leave Lungden and follow the obvious trail that descends for approximately about two hours to reach the village of Thame. We will take a short rest at Thame for enjoying the magnificent views of high snow-topped mountains. From Thame, we continue our trek by following the trail that turns east, as we head towards a good campsite at Mende for our overnight camping. Mende is a small village located at the entrance of Kyajo Drangka.

  • Day 22: Trek from Mende to Kyajo Ri Base Camp [4550m/14925ft]

    4-5 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    From Mende, we will follow a faint yak trail that crosses a couple of passes to enter the isolated valley of Kyajo Drangka. During our trek, we will have stunning views of Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Kwangde Peak, Parchamo Peak, and other surrounding high peaks. After a few hours of trekking, we will arrive at a good campsite along the side of a small river. Our Sherpa crew will set up our Base Camp and start making preparations for setting up additional camps at higher altitudes.

  • Day 23: Leisure Day

    We have separated this day as incase we couldn’t continue our journey because of bad weather.

  • Day 24: Climb to Camp I [5200m/17056ft]

    4-5 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    After breakfast, we leave our base camp and follow a rising trail that climbs through grassy spur and boulders. Our trek continues with a steep climb along the rocky trail with several boulders. The climb can be very tiring, so resting every now and then helps in restoring energy for further trekking. We will trek until we reach a good campsite at 5,200 meters. Our Sherpa crew will do all the hard works from fixing the routes, carrying the tents, climbing gears and provide healthy meals.

  • Day 25: Rest & Acclimatization at Camp I

    Today we take a rest day at Camp I for acclimatization and exploration. Proper acclimatization is essential to avoid mental and physical altitude sickness and to ensure our successful summit climb of Kyajo Ri Peak. For acclimatization, we will indulge in some climbing training practices. With inspiring views of high mountain valleys and fascinating high peaks, we will spend a wonderful rest day at Camp I. Meanwhile our Sherpa crew will make preparations for the further climb to reach Camp II.

  • Day 26: Climb to Camp II [5700m/18696ft]

    4-5 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

    After spending a good day rest at Camp I, we continue to follow the trail that climbs gradually at first and then steeply through snow-covered sections. We may have to make use of fixed ropes and crampons during our climbing trek today. Our uphill trekking continues for some time until we reach a good campsite at 5700 meters. Our Sherpa crew will set up the camp and make final checks on the climbing equipment for the summit climb of Kyajo Ri Peak, the following day.

  • Day 27: Descend Back to Base Camp

    4-5 hrs climbing Kyajo Ri peak and back  Tented Camp

    After successfully achieving the summit of Kyajo Ri Peak, we prepare ourselves for the return journey. From Camp II we will retrace our steps on the same trail that descends all the way down to the Base Camp. Our trail is often snow-covered and slippery, so we must be very careful when descending through slippery sections to arrive back to Base Camp for our overnight camping.

  • Day 28: Trek from Base Camp to Namche Bazaar

    4-5 hrs Trek  Lodge

    Leaving our camping site at the Base Camp, we will continue to retrace our steps on the same trail that leads back through Mende. We leave the alpine vegetation and enter into the subtropical forested area filled with rhododendron trees. A rather easy trek will lead us back to Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 29: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

    5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

    Today is the last day of our trek. From Namche Bazaar our trek is a pleasant walk that passes along dense rhododendron forest, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to Bhote Koshi River – crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of about forty-five minutes will bring us back to Lukla. Once we arrive at Lukla we will celebrate the completion of our trip with the NGT team.

  • Day 30: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

    35 min Flight  Hotel/Resort

    After breakfast, we will take an early morning scenic mountain flight from Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu. After landing at Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can either have rest at the hotel or visit sites (world heritage sites of UNESCO) that weren’t possible on the second day of the trip. Also, walking around the market streets of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. In the evening we will have a final meal together for celebrating the completion of our Three Peaks Climbing Adventure: Island Peak, Lobuche Peak, and Kyajo Ri Peak.

Things You Should Know?

  • Island, Lobuche and Kyaj0 Ri peak, all three peaks are the approx same height and also technical and challenging peak to climb.
  • Island, Lobuche and Kyajo Ri peak require the high level of technical climbing skills with previous mountaineering experience, good physical fitness and a high degree of devotion and commitment.
  • Lobuche peak climbing with steep snow and icy slopes to reach the top.
  • Kyajo Ri peak climbing made up a moderate rock and steep alpine ice climbing that makes hard to climb to Kyajo Ri.
  • Crossing the most challenging and adventurous passes Renjo La Pass at 5,435 meters and Cho La Pass at 5,368 meters.
  • Hard to climb, First Kyajo Ri, Second Lobuche, and last Island peak.
  • Lobuche and Kyajo Ri peak require 600 meters to fix the rope and 150 meters main ropes with full-sized climbing gears.
  • For mountaineering and peak climbing in Nepal, please bring insurance coverage. That will be helpful during an emergency evacuation and high altitude sickness.
